How to Plan a One-Day Lumbini Trip

How to Plan a One-Day Lumbini Trip

Quick answer: For a one-day Lumbini trip, arrive in the morning, spend two to three hours in the Sacred Garden and Maya Devi Temple, then visit a handful of monasteries before ending at the World Peace Pagoda in the late afternoon.

Morning: The Sacred Garden

Arrive early and head straight to the Maya Devi Temple. The light is soft and the site is quieter. Spend time in the garden and at the Ashoka Pillar.

Midday: The Monasteries

Walk or hire a cycle rickshaw through the monastic zones. Pick three or four monasteries rather than rushing through all of them. The Thai and Myanmar monasteries are close together.

Afternoon: The Pagoda

Finish at the World Peace Pagoda for a calm end to the day. Leave by late afternoon so your return to Bhairahawa or your hotel is relaxed.

Getting Around

The site is spread out. Bicycles and rickshaws are available, or you can hire a taxi for the day. Our trip from Bhairahawa guide covers transport.
